The Class of 61 is
planning their 50th reunion for Oct 29 & 30, 2011. For information
contact Bill Strong at
August 26,
2011
Dear
Classmate,
We are progressing with plans for our East High Class of 61, 50th
year reunion on October 28
& 29, 2011.
We have gotten a great initial response and are looking forward to
seeing over 110 attendees. Some folks that have never
come to a reunion are planning to come to this one. It is just two
months away.
Show me the money
I thank those
of you that have already paid ($100 per person for all events.) Thus
far we have received payments for 65 people. That means we are over
half way home. If you are coming, go ahead and send your money so we
can get an accurate head count. If you can only attend one of the
events just send $50 per person and tell us which event you plan to
attend. If you aren’t going to be able to attend, please also let us
know that. I thank those of you that have already told us. We will miss
you and may talk about you!
Where to stay
Some of you
have asked about hotel recommendations convenient to all of the events.
I have checked out several of the East Memphis hotels along I-240. The
hotel closest to all of our events would be the Hampton Inn –
Walnut Grove/Baptist East. It is just off Walnut Grove just
east of the Baptist Hospital. (I-240 exit 13) We have been offered a
rate of $79 single or double plus tax. (Their regular rate is $114.)
This includes a full breakfast each morning. Call your reservation into
901-747-3700 and tell them you want one of the rooms held for the East
High Class of 1961 Reunion. If you plan to use this hotel
please let me know so I can try and get them to set
aside and hold enough rooms for us.
Send me some pictures
The disc
jockey, Alex Ward, doing our music Saturday night has a video
presentation of familiar scenes of Memphis in the 50’s & 60’s. He
will be happy to customize it for our class, if we can provide him with
pictures of ourselves while we were in school and out. The simplest way
to do this will be to scan the pictures and e-mail them to me. You
probably won’t even have to remove the pictures from an album. If you
can’t do this, ask your kids or grand kids. Somebody close by will
surely be able to do this. FedEx Kinkos can do it for you. If all
else fails, send me the photos by US Mail and I will scan them and try
to return them to you. Be sure to have your name and address on the
back of each picture you send.
Who’s Where
Please fill
out the attached “Who’s Where” form and return it to me. Even if you
are not planning to attend the reunion, your classmates would like to
know where you are and a little about what you have done over the last
50 years. If we have enough money in our pot we will put together a
printed booklet of these sheets. You should be able to save this
document and fill it out on your computer and then e-mail it back to
me. Otherwise print it out and fill it out and snail mail it to me. (We
plan to put your picture from the annual in the upper right corner of
this form.) Or write us a letter. We will try and use whatever you send
us.
