The East High Alumni Page Seeks to Identify Its Future Editor

The editor of The East High Alumni Page needs to identify an alumnus of East High School, Memphis, Tennessee, who will volunteer to become the future editor of this independent web site. Initially, the person so identified will probably take the role of an assistant editor to become familiar with the site, its purposes, policies, and practices, taking over the full editorship when the current editor is no longer able. The founder and editor of The East High Alumni Page is in his 70s and sooner or later the control of the web site will need to be accepted by someone else if it is to remain the resource “of record” for East High alumni.

This is a voluntary position, there is no remuneration. In fact, there is a cost in commitment, time, effort, and even a little bit of monetary expense once the new editor takes full control.

A dedication to and appreciation of his/her time as a student (or possibly as faculty member) at East High School, Memphis, Tennessee  and a person at an age that would reasonably allow for a decade or two of editorship would likely be requirements. Preference is for a graduate of East as well as someone old enough to realize the contribution the school made to her/his life, to the life of so many other graduates of East, and has a desire to honor those benefits by providing this web page service to alumni and to the school as a free resource for them.

A familiarity with web page development and HTML would be helpful.

The East High Alumni Page is guided by a set of policies developed over its nearly 30 years of existence. While the next editor might well modify existing policies and create new ones over time, it is hoped he/she would initially abide by those already in place. A commitment to objective journalism and independence from any external sources, including East High and the school district, is important.
