It's a great feeling to be part of the East High family via the Web. I left Memphis in 1981, but return often and fondly remember the good times and friends at East.
My wife Donna, and daugher Kim, live in Raleigh, NC. Raleigh is old-South, like Memphis, yet has a high-tech atmosphere with a wonderful culture.
I'm a network engineer for a large training company, working way too many hours and not spending near enough time at home (sound familiar?)
Write if you get a chance.
Hang in there Mustangs!!

Deborah Blakney - Graduated early with Class of 1975. See her profile entry on the Class of '75 directory page.

Colonious Davis [last updated October, 1998]
Hi I am elated to see such a fine web page on line for my dear high school. I am Colonious Davis from the class of 1976. Being a part of the test group for "busing to achieve racial balance" I found that my education was greater than the "4R's". Mine would be also the learning and appreciation of a different culture of people not so familiar to me. It has become one of the greater lessons I've learned and a cornerstone I base many philosophies of life . I learned that beyond cultural differences we were all human, breathing, loving people. I shall forever cherish my life experiences at East High.
I currently reside in Memphis and I a on the management staff at a local hospital. I work with the Memphis theatre community on a part-time basis as my personal hobby. I gained that love for theatre from our high school music teacher Ms Gillespie. We performed the fabulous broadway follies or some other production each year. I have had the opportunity to travel abroad and around the US either performing, watching or working behind the scences of many theatrical productions. I have worked with most of the local theatre groups both college and professional here in town. One of my most memorable performances was "A salute to Africans in Russia" which toured Russia.
Out of high school I attended Shelby State, Memphis State and finally University of Tennessee @ Memphis with a BS in Health Information Management.

Greetings fellow Mustangs!
It is nice to see familiar names from the past. I have been in Texas for most of the past 26 years, except for a few years back in Memphis living downtown and working at LeBonheur. I earned Masters degrees at Trinity University in Healthcare Administration and Hardin-Simmons in Business Administration. I work as an Administrator of a group of 8 physcians here in West Texas. I still run, ran the Boston Marathon in 2001, have been married 25+ years, kids 15 and 11. I am the President of the Board of the Abilene Philharmonic and love travel. My kids both go to camp in East Tennessee a month of the summer so I get to pass through and visit at least once a year.
I love you guys. Those were wonderful years. Did someone say something about a 30th reunion?
Drop me a line.

Donny Hoxie [last updated July, 2004]
I am married going on 25 years as of 2004. Currently living in Texas.

Hello, class of 1976! I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to be able to communicate with so many of my classmates. I had hoped to see more names from the class of '76 on this great alumni page. I am very proud of my days at East High School. I can never forget my days with Ms. Gillespie and the swing choir. I still have the passion to sing, but I don't perform as much as I used to. I have been married for 15 years to Haywood Hudson Jr. Together we have four wonderful children, Kristen('01), Christopher('02), Jamie, and Chelsea. Both Christopher and Kristen graduated from East High School. We reside in Memphis, TN. I am employed with the Memphis City School System as a school nurse. I love my job very much because children have become my passion. I would love to hear from any of my friends from East. Love to all of you. You can contact me at.....

I attended East from first through seventh grade. My class was among the first to experience the busing experiment, pairing us with Lester for eighth and ninth grades. I dabbled with private schools for those two years, but returned to East in the tenth grade, skipped the eleventh grade, and then graduated in 1976.
While at East those last two years, I was involved in a public television series produced by WTTW (PBS) in Chicago about desegregation in the public school system as seen through the eyes of students (titled: "As We See It"). Memphis was one of ten cities involved in the project, and I along with about five other students at East High were chosen to write and produce the Memphis segment of the series. We got the whole school involved in some of the filming: during one scene we staged a pep rally/party in the gym, with awards given out by principal Mr. Wesley , and live music to which we all danced the bump (some of us not very well, either).
I attended Southwestern at Memphis, graduating in 1980 with a degree in English Lit. Ive been working in various capacities most of that time since for my brother-in-law, Bob Towery, the founder of Memphis Magazine. Today I am the executive publisher for Towery Publishing, in charge of production of our print products which include coffee-table style photo-journal books on different cities across the country and Canada (our Memphis book was just released in May) as well as guides and directories for chambers of commerce, and Agenda magazine in Memphis and Tulsa, OK.
My sister, Patty McDowell Towery, graduated from East in 1968, and my late brother, David McDowell, graduated in 1966.

I graduated in 1976 after three years of FUN at one of the best schools in the city. Never having been a real partier at East, I came into my own during my freshman year at CBC (who knew I had it in me?). I transferred to North Texas State for the next two years, then left to work in my dad's company. Today, I'm a textile chemist with the same company, living in Dallas with my wonderful girlfriend, Dani. Lots of great times at East, but it's the friends I made (and a huge, unrequited crush on Ellen S.) that I will always remember most!

After many years after East High graduation living in a fog, I moved to Asheville, NC in 1989 and decided to get serious aboutn life a little bit. I went back to college in 1993 to UNC-Asheville and graduated with a degree in psychology in 1997. I did a masters program at Appalachian State in Boone, NC in Marriage and family Therapy attending from 1998-2000. I have worked in mental health since then in vatrious capacities. Wow! What a great website! I ended up graduating from Briarcrest, but always felt like East was my high school. I married Shep Fargotstein (class of 1972) and we have 3 great kids - David, 25, Sam, 21 and Molly, 17. We were married for 14 years, but things didn't work out as planned...Anyway, I remarried in 2001 to a great guy who flys C-5s for the Air Guard. We live in Germantown and have a wonderful life. I have lots of great memories of East - my friends, Patricia Day, Leigh Crockett, April Mills (I wonder what happened to April?), Linda Hoehn, Todd and Tim Nelson, David Beard, Tommy Nevin...I haven't seen some of them since then!! My teachers - Mr. McIntyre (biology), Ms. Alissandratos (algebra), Mrs. Reagan (Curry)(English), Ms. Thompson (History), Ms. Gandy (math?), Mrs. Collier (Art), Miss Gillespie (music) - anyway, my children have kept me busy through the years - I would love to see some of those people again.

Wow ... I just stumbled on this site. What fun! I attended East Elementary & East Junior High from Fall 1964 through Spring 1972, switched to MCHS (Memphis Catholic High) from 1972-1976 when I graduated. East probably had more influence on my early life than any other place I can recall. I grew up in Hedgemoor ... left Memphis in 1976 to attend Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, receiving degrees in broadcast journalism & music. Following college, I settled in the Tampa Bay Area, marrying my husband Mark Guthrie in 1983, taking up a career in news/talk radio and eventually replacing it with my own business, Tune-of-the-Century Music, and a concert/recording/writing career in music that I continue today. I'm at http://www.joyfulnoise.net, also on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/joyfulnoise. I'd love to re-connect ... I have wonderful memories of my years at East and in Memphis.
